After over fifteen years shooting weddings across this county, I put together the venues I consider to be at the very top of their game, and the ones that look after my couples perfectly, every single time. I'll admit my bias: I'm a photographer first, so how a place actually looks matters to me too. These venues never stop amazing me.

What makes each one different
Lanwades Hall
Lanwades Hall sits in Suffolk, just outside Newmarket, and it's the venue on this list most couples haven't heard of before they see it. I shoot here around fifteen times a year, which says plenty on its own, a photographer doesn't keep going back to a venue that photographs badly or treats suppliers poorly. Walled grounds and rooms that hold their own light make it one of the more reliably beautiful venues I work at.

The Granary Estates, also in Suffolk, is the barn wedding done properly, exposed beams and genuine character rather than a shed dressed up for the day. The wildflower grounds give you somewhere honest to shoot outdoors, and every couple who books my coverage here gets a free pre-wedding shoot included, useful for getting comfortable in front of the camera before the day itself.

Longstowe Hall gives you three genuinely different backdrops in one place: the lake, the rose gardens, and the Rose Ball Room itself. That range matters more than it sounds, it means the same day can look completely different depending on the hour and the weather, which is exactly the kind of variety worth having when I'm covering a wedding for six or seven hours straight.

South Farm, near Royston, is the venue I'd point you to if you want relaxed over formal. It's a dependable, well run venue with none of the surprises you sometimes get elsewhere.

Island Hall in Godmanchester is a private riverside venue, and that privacy is the whole point, no other couple's wedding overlapping with yours, no public footpath cutting through your photos. I shoot here regularly enough to know its quirks, where the light is kindest in the afternoon and where the river makes the best backdrop for portraits.
